McKinley


Chevron Mining, Inc. operates the McKinley Mine located approximately 28 miles northwest of Gallup, NM, adjacent to New Mexico State Highway 264. The mine is situated on Indian, Public, and Private Lands.

There are four major coal seams running through McKinley, ranging from one and a half to thirteen feet in thickness, averaging four feet thick. Partings range from less than one foot to eighty feet.

The coal is transported by railroad to the markets of Arizona Public Service's Cholla Plant at Joseph City, Arizona; Salt River Project, Coroado Station, St John's Arizona; Tucson Electric, Irvington Station, Tucson, Arizona; Stone Container, Snowflake, Arizona; Arizona Electric Power Cooperative, Inc.; and the Apache Generating Station, Benson, Arizona.
