Uranium naturally occurs in minute quantities in most rocks (from sedimentary to volcanic), soils and waters. Natural hotspots such as these are easily oxidized (combined with oxygen) and therefore very mobile. In soils and water, it has the potential to be taken up by plants, animals and people.
